New! Weekly What's What on Japan

So I (Grayden) decided to do a little something different from week to week. We'll call it the "Weekly What's What on Japan" and it will contain random (read: mostly trivial) facts on Japan and a Japanese word or phrase. For all of you who know my history as it pertains to blogging... myspace... facebook,  I promise to give it my best effort to be consistent in posting. So here we go!

Random Facts:

  • Want a team mascot that will never dissapoint and always strike fear into the heart of your rival team? Japan's got it: Hokkaido's "Nippon [Japan] Ham-Fighters." So, depending on the translation, the mascot would either be an angry vegetarian OR a rugged slice of deli ham wielding a mace.
  • Japanese mythology holds that the first island of Japan was created from a droplet of water that fell from a Japanese spear. The rest of the islands were created from the union of the two creator deities (i.e. Izanami and Izanagi).
Phrase of the Week:

(私わ日本語を少しだけ話す)
"Watashi-wa nihongo-o sukoshi dake hanasu"
"I only speak a little Japanese"

That's it for this week. Tune in next week for another episode!
